Workshop on quality, authenticity and traceability of food QATAF2018

QATA

Quality and safety of food is always a concern of consumers in Vietnam and around the world. The analysis and control of food quality is a complex process that goes through many stages, requiring a combination of a variety of methods and analytical techniques for physical and chemical properties. Each type of food will have specific requirements that meet the standards and regulations set for quality and composition. Therefore, the analysis methods are researched and developed for each type of food. In the context of globalization today, more and more foods are traded worldwide. Therefore, the net determination of the type, origin and so on of food is one of the mandatory requirements. Manufacturers are required to provide and verify the origin of the food and its components from which the requirements for identification are derived. This will be done through the creation and management of data banks for Vietnam fisheries and aquaculture products to enhance the ability of identifying the products worldwide and thereby support businesses to establish and to ensure national brands to enhance the value of the product. Thus, the need for quality control and traceability has become increasingly urgent and will be the basis for developing food safety policies, creating risk management tools for the production and export of foodstuffs in the international market.

In order to improve understanding and to establish a network of scientists, agencies, testing centers as well as enterprises operating in the above areas, the “Workshop on quality, authenticity and traceability of food ” was held on March 8, 2018 at Hanoi University of Technology and March 14, 2018 at the University of Science – National University in Ho Chi Minh city.

GS1 Vietnam representative has made a presentation at two workshops on the function and feasibility of GS1 standards for traceability. Product supply chains continue to increase in scope and complexity. More global companies, commercial parties, legislators and consumers need and require more information about the products they buy and use. The complexity of the supply chain comes from the needs of the consumer and the industry. GS1’s global integration standards are capable of addressing the complexity mentioned above. GS1 standards provide capabilities of automatic identifying and data capture on products, assets, logistic units, parties and locations. In addition, GS1 Standards facilitate the recording of key data exchanges involving origin identification information between commercial parties.
